Statement
My artwork is about everyday moments, self-reflection, and past experiences. I am creating personal artwork for the universal audience. Many of my paintings reflect upon how I was brought up as a young boy, how I reacted to those moments, and the sense or feeling in those experiences. I paint these past memories and small everyday moments attempting to make every instant important and beautiful. My past paintings are about personal problems in my own life, such as my parent’s divorce and living with a mother that was bipolar.
My current work begins with an experience, an idea, or a feeling. I explore situations such as playing games, burying a bird, or encountering a cat. I work intuitively on that moment studying master paintings and other artists in representing a universal quality. In these paintings I attempt to represent the feeling of the moment through the use of atmosphere, space, color, emphasis, and gesture. Through the feeling of the painting I want people to relate to my artwork because they have had similar feelings, experiences, or observations. In my work I am continuously working toward connecting the personal experience to a more diverse and global audience. As the understanding of my experiences and myself changes, my artwork changes.
